  • Joe and his staff are OUTSTANDING. The building is immaculate. Makes a difficult situation much easier to bear dealing with Russo.

  • We cannot thank Joey, R.J,Tony, Elizabeth and Wess for everything they did for our Dad's services. Because of them, he went out like a rock star. You guys are the best. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

  • If you are looking for a place to have a service for your loved one I suggest you take a minute to read my review. My father was the greatest man I have ever encountered. The love I felt and feel for him is indescribable so you can imagine when he passed suddenly, I was completely heartbroken. With this broken heart I had to commence the process of planning his funeral. I wanted to provide my father with the most beautiful service I could. My mother and siblings were a wreck so the task was left to me.

First off, I must say I absolutely hate funeral homes. They are always dark, decor is always dated, they have the most terrible lighting, and the color scheme of light brown, medium brown, dark brown, mauve (ugly pink), and beige seem to be the only options in funeral homes. Also the refreshment/snack area is always a small room with a table and a sink that everyone struggles to cram into for that burnt cup of coffee. I understand the economy has gone through some tough times but people are always passing away so it is hard for me to believe that these places have never had the funds to update their facilities. And lastly, people always struggle to park at these places. It always blows my mind that these parking lots have about twenty spots and people are forced to find parking far away. Anyone who lives in Chicago knows that in the winter this is brutal.

Anyway Russo's had caught my eye many months before my father had passed. The exterior is absolutely beautiful and almost makes you question whether it is a funeral home at first since we are so used to seeing brown ugly facilities. When I walked into Russo's I was blown away at the beauty of the place. The interior design is breath taking! The lobby is that of a fine hotel you would find in Rome, Italy. There are gorgeous paintings, beautiful floral arrangements and everything is immaculate. It is well lit and the staff is welcoming and presentable. Joe Russo personally met with me to make arrangements. The way he patiently sat with me and thoroughly explained everything to me without leaving question was very appreciated. He answered every question with the up-most detail and never made me feel rushed or interrupted our meeting to answer a call or tend to anything else that may have been going on. He gave me his personal cell number and told me I could call as many times as I wanted, at any time I wanted. And I did! And he was kind every time- never annoyed and never rushing. I would say this is exceptional service considering he is the owner. He could have easily had his secretary handle things but he chose to extend himself personally.

The day of the service, my fathers room was beautiful. The way they set up the floral arrangements, pictures, everything was perfectly done. There was a beautiful movie of a large collection of pictures of my father playing on two very large flat screen TVs. There was also a TV screen above the digital sign in for friends and family to see my dad as they signed in and they were able to read memorable quotes that my dad said often. Very nice touch. The coffee room is a cute little cafe where they have a nice coffee machine that makes delicious coffee and it's free. At the end of the night the staff wrapped up any left over pastries/food and helped a ton! Even the bathrooms are beautiful! There is no corner of this place that is not beautiful and immaculate. Numerous times throughout the night we heard "what a beautiful place to have your father's service!"

I cannot say enough about this facility or it's owner Joe Russo. Joe is an exceptional person who was born to help people during these difficult times. His kindness, attention, patience and fine attention to detail makes his sympathy genuine and heart-felt. At the end of everything I felt like I had made a friend. Joe is like family to me and I would never have a service for someone that I love handled by anyone else but that man.

  • Russo's Hillside Chapels lives up to its reviews. When our father passed, they were very accommodating, extremely genuine, and very responsive to our family. Since we weren't knowledgeable with the process, Joe helped us through each step of the procedures and incorporated our family's wishes tastefully. Joe went above and beyond from helping with food at the wake to shoveling the snow at the church. What's more, we were treated with respect and empathy during this difficult time. At such difficult time in our lives, it was great to have kind, compassionate, flexible, and knowledgeable people to work with. Mary was great with helping us with the things we needed for after the funeral and wake.

  • Choosing Russo Hillside Chapel was the best decision our family made when our loved one passed. The attention we received went far beyond what we expected. From the minute we walked in until the end of the luncheon, Russo Chapels covered every detail and then some. We were allowed to spend time with loved ones and not worry about anything. Russo Chapels paid attention to the details of our loved one's life. Pictures, DVD, quotes and comments about our loved one provided our guests with moments of quiet reflection, fond remincing and sometimes laughter, which personalized the wake. Everyone who attended loved the personal touches.
The chapel itself is gorgeous, as well. Professionally decorated, but with the comforts of home, it was a warm & welcoming chapel for our family & friends.
The staff was also amazing! Everyone worked diligently to accomodate any of our family's needs. Phone calls were returned promptly, paperwork was completed accurately and discretely. The staff helped anyone with questions about details for directions, the wake & the service with great compassion.
I recommend Russo Hillside Chapels with the highest amount of respect and thoughtfulness, as that is how we were tretated during one of the most difficult times in our lives.
